Holy Cow! Planning Our Future Together

Apr. '24

The Session upon the recommendation of the Transitional Ministry Team has chosen to partner with Holy Cow! Consulting. We will be inviting you to complete their Church Assessment Tool (CAT), an on-line instrument that will help us gauge the strength, vitality, and trends in our church. The information gained from this assessment will be valuable in helping us make decisions about the future of our church, including the attributes of our next installed pastor.

During the second week of April, you will receive an email with a unique link to the CAT. In the email you will be asked to go online by clicking on the link provided and tell us about your experiences in the church and priorities for our church.  Please do not discuss the survey with others as this may influence their answers.

All answers are strictly anonymous.  We have no way of matching any assessment to a particular person, so please feel free to candidly share your perceptions, opinions and experiences. It is important that each person who is an active member take the assessment. Our future together is dependent on your participation and honest answers.

Please make sure that the church has your updated email. If we do not have an email address for you, you may request a paper copy by contacting the church office. There will also be folks in fellowship hall after worship to answer your questions and provide assistance.

If you have questions, please contact any member of our Transitional Ministry Team: Kristin Cottle, Geneva Maready, Devan Riley, Dan Robinson, Jason Rouse, and Lindsay Skidmore, or staff resource person, Robert Lapp.

From working with Holy Cow! Consulting, we feel that we received helpful insights and good value for the investment of money and time. The greatest benefit we have received is understanding of the congregation’s priorities and areas for improvement. (December 2023)

Sanctuary Flowers

2024

Sanctuary Flowers

Dear WPC Family,

Each Sunday beautiful flowers are provided in the sanctuary by congregational members. Once again, we are in need of sign-ups to help with the 2024 year.

A Flower Chart will be available in the Currie Building beside the kitchen door to review and sign up for a specific date.  Should you have questions or need assistance, please contact Harriet Farrior (910-289-1199) or Debbie Price (757-408-0-964).

We thank you for helping with this ministry in our church.

Harriet and Debbie

Family is to pay the florist directly.
Flowers do not have to be from a florist. You can create your own arrangement.

2024

Prayer Shawl Ministry Team

Celebrates Their Ninth Year Anniversary

On January 15, 2024

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry began in January 2015 by Dottie Obenour.  Within these nine years with the support and the blessings of Wallace Presbyterian Church, the prayer shawl ministry has kept going and has continued to surround people in need and comfort with prayers and love from these shawls.  We thank you for your continued support and prayers.  The Prayer Shawl Ministry has given over 800 prayer shawls to people in need of prayer and comfort.  Here are some of the places the shawls have gone:

Boston, MA                           Cedar Springs, MI

Cape Cod, MA                      Indialantic, FL

Philadelphia, PA                 Atlanta, GA

Annapolis, MD                     Texas

Surf City, NC                         Connecticut

Wisconsin                              California

Utah                                          South Carolina

Raleigh, NC                           Chicago, IL

New York City, NY              Gaithersburg, MD

Kentucky                                New Jersey

Rapid City, IA                        Washington

Hanover, PA                           Fort Collins, CO

Pittsburgh, PA                       New York

Tampa, FL                               Tennessee

Black Mountain, NC            Annapolis, MD

Romania                                  Zambia

We have also given shawls right here and in and around Wallace.   We are very thankful for yarn donations and money donated which enabled us to provide these wonderful handmade items.  We are thankful for our ministry team and their interest in creating lovely prayer shawls for lovely people.  If you can knit or crochet and would like to join our Ministry Team, please contact one of these members:  Mary Ayres, Mary Carone, Marilyn Frater, Susie Gaus, Carol Potter, Barbara Swetits, Sandy Ward and Joan West.   Joey Fussell heads up the Happy Hearts Ministry.  The Happy Hearts are used by patients recovering from breast cancer surgery and heart surgery.

Tithely

On Going
Tithe.ly — Giving Made Easy

Wallace Presbyterian Church has set up a new method for you to give to the church.

Tithe.ly is a web-based giving platform that allows you to give to the church using your smart phone, tablet or computer. You can set up a recurring payment from your checking account (ACH or eCheck,) debit card or credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, or AMEX.) Payments can be one time or repeated. You can also create an account or give as a guest without having an account.

Tithe.ly streamlines the giving process with its app that we have added to our website. It will allow you to give without leaving the web page. Likewise, you can give directly from your smart phone, after downloading the Tithe.ly app from your App Store. Tithe.ly is available for iOS, Android, and the web. Giving through the app can be completed in just 30 seconds.
Tithe.ly’s simple methods means that givers don’t have to learn complex methods of giving.

Online giving using Credit/Debit Cards always incur fees from the credit card company to process your payment. However, Tithe.ly’s fees are the lowest you’ll find for this type of service. They do not charge for setup or have ongoing fees. They’re charged on a per-transaction basis at $0.30 + 2.9%. If you would like, you can also automatically increase your giving to cover these costs or just let it be deducted from your gift.

Here are some of the things we love about Tithe.ly:

  • Computer, Tablet or Smartphone. Tithe.ly works beautifully on any device, with just the right amount of security that you’re details are safe, but it’s not ridiculously annoying every time you try to access your account.
  • Geolocation. Tithe.ly has a nifty little feature that geolocates the nearest church in the area (that currently has a Tithe.ly account set up), so if you’re physically in your church’s building, or you live close by, chances are your church will be located automatically. Of course, you can search by church name too, but there’s something cool about being able to click on “Give to the nearest church” and seeing your own church’s Tithe.ly page appear. By the way, we’re the only church in Duplin County that is using Tithe.ly. We expect that to change fairly quickly.
  • Intuitive. Tithe.ly is so intuitive. All you need to do is follow the prompts. All the info you need is displayed in the right places, and it makes online giving so easy. You can give to the church in under 10 seconds, using only your 4-digit Tithe.ly passcode.
  • Covering Fees. As mentioned before, as part of the giving process, Tithe.ly allows you to select an option to “cover fees” as part of your transaction. If you select this option, you become the one to pay the $0.30 + 2.9% transaction fees, rather than the church.
  • Website Integration. Tithe.ly has been integrated into our website. You can also designate where your offering is given (e.g., Building Fund, General Offering, Backpack Buddies, etc.)
  • Reporting. Receipts and reporting are easy with Tithe.ly, for both the user and the church’s Treasurer (aka Wayne Casteen.) All users have access to their receipts and records of their giving activity.

There are loads of other features we love about Tithe.ly (like Text-to-Give, Giving Kiosks, and their great video resources) but the best thing to do is visit their website and see for yourself. After the initial gift, all funds are transferred daily as they are received.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I download and install the Tithe.ly App?

To download the Tithe.ly app, you can click on the links at the bottom of the page for Android or iOS. Or you can search “Tithely” in your smartphone’s app store.

Once you’ve download and installed the Tithe.ly App on your smartphone, create your account by clicking “Create Account.” Once your account is created, you can search for the church by using the search box located at the top or you can click on the “find nearest church” button if you are near the church. When you have found it and are ready to give just click the “Give Now” button and complete the giving form!

How do I log into my Tithe.ly account?

You can login to your Tithe.ly account from the Tithe.ly app or through the web. The three options are detailed below.

1) Logging into Tithe.ly from the app:

If you’ve installed the Tithe.ly app, you can simply open the app on your smartphone, enter your username and password, and click on “Log In”. Forgot your password? Reset it by following these instructions.

2) Logging into Tithe.ly from your church website:

If you normally give by going through your church/ministry website, you can log into your Tithe.ly account online by clicking the giving button on the churches website, clicking the “Login/Signup” link located in the top right corner, and then entering your login information.

3) Logging into Tithe.ly from the web:

Do I have to have a Tithe.ly account to give?

No! You can absolutely donate, register, or pay without signing up for a Tithe.ly account except for when using text-to-give or the Tithe.ly mobile app where having an account is required. When giving, registering, or paying via the Tithe.ly web giving form you do NOT have to create a Tithe.ly account to make one-time or recurring donations. We wanted to make that process easy and pain-free. You can start giving from your favorite organization’s website at any time. However if you’d like to make giving as easy as possible and have the opportunity to take advantage of all the Tithe.ly features, you’ll have to create an account.

Creating an account allows you to:

  • Securely store your payment method (so you don’t have to type it out each time)
  • Setup / cancel a recurring donation
  • See your giving history
  • Manage your account yourself 24/7

Do I receive a receipt after giving?

Absolutely! A person giving through Tithe.ly will receive an automatically sent email seconds after they finish giving. You can even customize the email receipt / confirmation so that it matches your brand and style more closely. The gift email includes:

  • Date of gift
  • Name of organization given to
  • Amount given
  • Fund / designation of gift
  • Gift ID

Is Tithe.ly safe and secure to use?

PCI DSS Level 1 compliance is a set of rules stated by credit card companies and audited by an independent third party. Duplin Christian Outreach Ministries News

Look!

Thank you for your support of DCOM with your prayers, monetary donations, volunteer hours and donations to Blessings in Store.  DCOM has been able to reach out to the people of our communities and share God’s love with others.  Without your continued support none of this would be possible.  Every day at the crisis center and the thrift store we see God’s love and we are as blessed as those we are reaching out to!  At the December board meeting we voted to accept “Feed Our Hungry Children” under our umbrella and also to start the Backpack Buddies program in 5 local schools, Wallace Elementary, Rose Hill-Magnolia Elementary, Chinquapin Elementary, Charity Middle, and Wallace-Rose Hill High School.  We discussed several possibilities for reaching out to our communities but we concentrated on one additional ministry to DCOM.    If you are interested in being part of one of these ministries, please contact one of the board members, you can call DCOM (285-6000), Blessings in Store (285-5557) or Lois McCartney (285-5766) and leave a message.
