WPC Youth on a Mission (August 22-24) – 15 middle and high school age youth and 4 adults served at Eden Village, a 31-unit tiny home community in Wilmington for those who are chronically homeless and disabled. The founders, Tom and Kim Dalton shared about the root causes of homelessness and Eden Village’s vision to build tiny home communities so no one has to sleep alone outside. We stained a fence, painted frames for sponsor signs, and weed eated. For more information on Eden Village go to https://edenvillagewilmington.org/ Our devotional time focused on the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23): love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Our students were challenged to cultivate one of those gifts this coming school year. We also talked about where we saw those gifts in the ministry at Eden Village. We remembered that in our Baptism we always have a family and a spiritual home and we celebrated Communion, our family meal. We stayed at Matthew House, a two-story beach house located at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, Wrightsville Beach and worshiped with their faith community at the 8:00 am service. Rev. Caroline Jinkins’ message was based on gentleness – one of the Fruits of the Spirit. How providential! Oh, and we also had some fun, too. We enjoyed an afternoon at Jungle Rapids (water park, mini golf, go karts), spirited games in the evening, beach time, ice cream, and the creation of good memories for a life-time. You can be very proud of our youth and how they represent their faith, families, and church family. And thank you for the many ways you show your love and support of our youth. They are a very special group of young disciples!
